Customer Reviews
Jim Fruechtl (former city engineering) & Dave Hanson (area supervisor)
The harsh winters in Apple Valley, MN wreaked such havoc on concrete manhole collars that in 1998, the city installed HDPE rings on its sanitary manholes.
Jim Fruechtl, former city engineering construction coordinator with the Apple Valley Public Works Department, said, “Initially contractors resisted because it was something new. But they learned to like them, mostly because installation is much faster and safer.” He also performed his own test, setting a steel plate on one of the HDPE rings and driving a loaded cement truck over it. He explains, “I wanted to see if I could crush it — but it passed with flying colors.”
Dave Hanson, area supervisor for consulting and engineering firm Bonestroo Rosene Anderlik & Associates, field tested the Ladtech system in two different locations in 1998. He said, “The Ladtech rings last longer, they don’t cost more than concrete, and they are much quicker and easier to install.” Regarding concrete rings, he said, “We were not able to obtain consistency with installation of concrete rings. Construction companies would use different mortar mixes, sometimes causing deterioration of the concrete. With the Ladtech rings, we eliminated this variable.” In 2021, the current supervisor in charge of the Apple Valley Road construction projects provided a follow-up review of the rings, 23 years after installation. He said, “‘The beauty of the Ladtech rings is that they indeed prevent I&I and also eliminate reconstruction, which has benefited the city of Apple Valley. With Ladtech rings there is no I&I, no rehab, no deterioration in the pockets, and the rings endure freeze thaw. The rings do what they say they will do.”
J Maine Swinton (Wastewater Collections. Superintendent)
The City of Chandler in Arizona has been using the Ladtech manhole frame and cover adjustment rings for over 15 years. I wanted to write you, your stakeholders, and inform other potential cities about our good experiences with your product.
The Ladtech adjustment rings have assisted with us in our move to find solutions to install corrosion-resistant materials to prolong the service life of our sewer structures. The variety of sizes and adjustments ensure road grade alignment and traffic load confidence with each install. The Ladtech adjustment rings are compatible with the various material types used for our manhole frame and covers as well.
The City of Chandler has been more than satisfied with the use of the Ladtech adjustment rings and we look forward to any future product innovations and enhancements as well.
Pete Matheson (IPEX PIPELINE Municipal System)
We have found that we can install the rings much more
quickly since they are lighter and don’t rely on mortar and
shims.” Three years after installing the Ladtech HDPE Adjusting Rings on a busy city street, the city of Windsor, Ontario,
Canada, believes they have found the answer – an effective solution to the labor intensive replacement of broken adjustment
rings. Since 1997, Windsor has been using the rings for the construction and reconstruction of almost 200 manholes. Pete also states,
“Windsor has to deal with the highest volume of truck traffic on their
street of any municipality in Canada combined with freeze and thaw cycles and the traditional adjusting rings, they simply cannot stand up.
There is a manhole on a main road on the wheel track of a truck lane that
had to be rebuilt every three to four years using concrete rings. We installed
Ladtech HDPE Adjustable Rings three years ago and there has been absolutely no deterioration of the rings to this date.
