cMOM is part of the EPA's strategy for managing Sanitary Sewer Overflows. EPA is expanding permit requirements under the Clean Water Act for 19,000 municipal sanitary sewer collection systems in order to reduce sanitary sewer overflows. cMOM has developed an NPDES permit (National Pollution Discharge elimination System), under NPDES all facilities that discharge pollutants into the waters from any point source in the United States are required to obtain a permit.

Specifying the LADTECH, Inc. Injection Molded Recycled High Density Polyethylene Adjusting Rings

There are several ways in which LADTECH® adjusting rings may be written into a job specification. The examples given below have been utilized by various engineering firms and municipalities. You may use these examples as guides or item number five can be used in its entirety to firmly specify the LADTECH, Inc. product.

1 - In lieu of round concrete rings, all castings shall be raised using round high density polyethylene (HDPE) rings or an approved equal.

2 - All adjusting rings shall be injection molded-recycled HDPE as manufactured by LADTECH, Inc. or approved equal and installed as per manufacture's recommendations.

3 - Sanitary sewer and storm sewer manholes:
The city is changing from concrete adjusting rings to high density polyethylene (HDPE) rings for all manholes.

4 - The city is requiring that in lieu of concrete adjusting rings, all manholes shall utilize the round high density polyethylene (HDPE) recycled adjusting rings.
The complete adjustment system utilizing the HDPE rings shall consist of the rings, sealed to the manhole structure, casting and one another by means of an approved butyl sealant.
The manhole adjusting rings shall be molded from high density polyethylene as defined in ASTM Specification D-4976. The contractor shall utilize flat and sloping units to match the required slope and or grade of the structure.

5 - All final grade adjustment of manhole covers and frame assemblies shall be completed utilizing injection molded high density polyethylene (HDPE) adjustment rings as manufactured by LADTECH, Inc. or an approved equal.

5.1 - The adjustment rings shall be manufactured from polyethylene plastic as identified in ASTM Specification D-4976 (Standard Specification for Polyethylene Plastic Molding and Extrusion Materials).

5.2 - Material properties shall be tested and qualified for usage per the ASTM Test Methods referenced in the above ASTM standard.

5.3 - The adjustment rings shall be molded from 100% recycled material.

5.4 - The plastic rings shall be manufactured utilizing the injection molding process as defined by SPE (Society of Plastic Engineers).

5.5 - The adjustment rings shall be tested to assure compliance with impact and loading requirements per the ASSHTO Standard Specification for Highway Bridges.

5.6 - Installation shall be per manufacture's recommendations only.

5.7 - The annular space between the rings and cone basin, the rings, and the rings and cover frame shall be sealed utilizing an approved butyl sealant.

5.8 - All adjustment for matching road grade shall be made utilizing a molded and indexed slope ring.

5.9 - All grade rings shall be covered by the LADTECH, Inc. warranty or one of equal terms and duration.

6.0 - Traffic Rated AASHTO HS-20

As a Municipality or the Designing Engineer, what can I expect from LADTECH® HDPE Rings?

  • Water tight joints, eliminating wastewater treatment costs associated with treating groundwater from infiltration between broken / cracked / deteriorated concrete adjusting rings.
  • A mortarless system above the MH cone or top slab. The concern of inconsistent mortar mix from job to job, day to day or even batch to batch is eliminated. Sealing is quickly and easily accomplished with one of several products.
  • The settlement of road surfaces around castings and MH rings due to deteriorated mortar and concrete rings, requiring costly rehabilitation projects, will become a concern of the past. Since the rings are not bonded together by mortar, the mortar can not deteriorate, and the migration of fine soils through the cracked concrete rings will no longer contribute to road surface breakup.
  • Plastic adjusting rings are inert to internal corrosion due to sulfuric acid, created from hydrogen sulfide gases and moisture common to sanitary sewers. The concerns of sulfuric acid attacking adjusting rings over time can now be forgotten. HS 25 loading - The LADTECH® HDPE Adjusting Rings are designed and tested to withstand loading in excess of HS 25.

As the Contractor, what can I expect from LADTECH® HDPE Rings?

  • Ease of installation - LADTECH® HDPE Adjusting Rings are lightweight, (approx. 6 lbs per ring), which reduces handling and transportation costs. Utilize pickup trucks for transportation instead of larger, more costly equipment.
  • Eliminate the mixing of mortar - Reduce your overhead by eliminating your concrete mixer and trailers full of sand, mortar mix, and water. Instead, simply apply an approved sealant between each ring, (check with your local ring distributor for details).
  • Reduce jobsite liability since there's no need to wait for mortar to harden, the excavated holes can be filled and compacted as soon as casting is placed.
  • Broken and wasted rings are a concern of the past - The distributors of LADTECH® HDPE Adjusting Rings are authorized to replace any ring which is damaged in any way, due to material defect or handling by the manufacturer, distributor, contractor or municipality. Simply return the ring to your distributor for credit or new rings.
